Achievements

Assessed 21 health facilities on their preparedness to receive ventilators and identified their technical assistance needs to strengthen capacity for clinical case management of COVID-19 patients.

Informed by a rapid facility assessment, developed and rolled out a flexible, asynchronous training curriculum for 819 clinicians on the use of ventilators, critical care for patients with COVID-19, and improving infection prevention and control.

Collaborated with the Honduran Association of Intensive Care to develop a new mentorship program for intensive care physicians, resulting in selection and training of 10 mentors who provided clinical mentorship to 42 additional health care workers on critical care topics.

Conducted a rapid assessment of the feasibility of scaling up the use of medical liquid oxygen and found there were no liquid oxygen shortages in the previous two years, local suppliers were available, significant physical infrastructure was in place in hospitals, there was a need to calculate oxygen consumption nationwide, and new regulatory policies and standards need to be developed.
