Achievements

Improved access to medical oxygen by procuring and installing 23 liquid oxygen systems and two oxygen-producing pressure swing adsorption plants across 23 health care facilities, resulting in 962 oxygen outlets installed at patient bedsides. EpiC also developed online and in-person training programs to enhance the capacity of staff to operate and maintain these oxygen systems, training 936 hospital staff. As a result, medical oxygen is now available for patient care across all 23 hospitals, improving respiratory care and emergency preparedness.

Provided medical equipment in 16 provinces, including 90 patient monitors, 390 infusion pumps, 80 high-flow nasal cannula systems, and 2,400 pulse oximeters, along with 120,000 masks to improve patient care and safety, as part of efforts to strengthen the health system and enhance emergency preparedness.

Developed and deployed 100 hours of instruction on COVID-19 clinical care, infection prevention and control, and community-based COVID care. Forty-five experts trained more than 8,000 health care staff on these topics, led 20 on-site trainings and assessments, and staffed hotlines and communities of practice to address urgent needs.

Supported a province-wide strategy to strengthen occupational mental health services for health workers in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s most populous province, with approximately 60,000 health care staff. Partnered with the Department of Health to implement interventions focused on communication, capacity building, and creating a supportive mental health work environment. This initiative mitigated the lingering effects of the pandemic on health care staff and strengthened their resilience and capacity to respond to future crises.

Completed a national assessment on oxygen capacity, including infrastructure and human resources, and identified training needs at 50 provincial lung hospitals. The results are informing strategic plans to improve oxygen system capacity across the national provincial lung and TB hospital system. Assessment findings have informed a roadmap for enhancing medical oxygen infrastructure, as well as planning for respiratory pandemics.
