Achievements
Supported the Ministry of Health (MOH) to develop a national COVID-19 vaccine communication and advocacy strategy, which guided vaccine communication and advocacy activities at national, regional, and district levels.
Trained 2,668 community health workers, local influencers, and 2,590 health care providers to reinforce COVID-19 demand creation messages and provide vaccination services in five regions from April–November 2022.
Vaccinated 2,446,527 people from April–November 2022 across five regions (Njombe, Iringa, Ruvuma, Mtwara and Lindi), using a combination of approaches: engaged communities and influential leaders; leveraged existing HIV service infrastructure, offering vaccines at temporary locations and large-scale events; and rolled out a communications campaign.
Rolled out a multi-faceted communications campaign which reached over 20 million people with information about COVID-19 through radio, edutainment, social media, community events, public service announcements, fliers, and one-on-one outreach, resulting in changed perceptions — including increased belief that the COVID vaccine is safe and effective — and increased vaccine uptake.
