Achievements
Contributed to a national increase in COVID-19 vaccination coverage from 34.2% to over 90% across all 16 districts in Sierra Leone through demand generation and community engagement; training vaccination staff and establishing additional vaccination teams to conduct outreach; providing logistics and last mile delivery of vaccination and other health supplies; supporting planning and coordination meetings for vaccination staff; providing cold chain equipment to hard-to-reach health facilities; supporting logistics and needs for COVID-19 surge and periodic routine immunization campaigns; and conducting outreach at non-health locations, such as weekly markets.
Facilitated COVID-19 vaccine service delivery by providing fuel and per diem for Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) vaccinators; procuring and installing solar refrigerators in 22 health facilities; and delivering COVID-19 and other routine immunization supplies to national and district-level warehouses across all 16 districts in the country. These efforts resulted in the administration of 1,057,263 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
Reached nearly two million unique social media users with a well-designed, context appropriate video called “A Tale of Two Doses,” which promotes the uptake of second doses of COVID-19 vaccination.
Built the capacity of 432 frontline public health workers across all 16 districts for effective and timely COVID-19 vaccine data entry into the government’s existing DHIS-2-based digital routine immunization data platform.
Recruited, trained, and managed 160 data entry clerks, who cleared the backlog of COVID-19 immunization records from 3.5 million to less than 1 million records within four months, in collaboration with EPI and UNICEF Sierra Leone.
