Achievements

Developed national guidelines for the use of COVID-19 rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) and revised the national COVID-19 care and treatment protocol to include newly available antivirals.

Developed training materials and built capacity of 149 health care workers on COVID-19 case management; 100 community workers on demand creation for COVID-19 testing; and 87 data entry staff on use of the e-tracker DHIS2 system to simplify data collection, reporting, and management.

Developed national guidelines for use of personal protective equipment (PPE), which enabled the Ministry of Health to determine the quantity and type of PPE to be used at each level of the health system, including facility and community services.

Rolled out behavior change activities to generate demand for COVID-19 testing and treatment among priority risk groups via national TV broadcasts, radio spots, discussion groups, social mobilization, and home visits.

Renovated medical oxygen piping systems in 21 health facilities, resulting in approximately 400 additional patient beds with oxygen access and oxygen quality control.
