Achievements
Provided clinical mentoring and technical assistance to improve care for patients with COVID-19 across 19 health facilities. Trained 61 health care workers in critical care and management of patients who need breathing support and trained six biomedical engineers on setup and maintenance of donated ventilators.
Reached over 6 million people with COVID-19 prevention messages through mass and social media to increase demand for vaccination. Distributed over 75,000 COVID-19 vaccine information brochures and trained over 1,670 individuals to deliver vaccine awareness activities across 3 provinces and 11 districts in Papua New Guinea.
Developed a practical guide for community health workers for management of COVID-19 and trained 73 volunteer health workers in home-based care to help reduce strain on primary care health facilities and reach people in their communities.
Oversaw the transition of the national disease outbreak surveillance system to the open source DHIS-2 platform that provides improved client data security, accessibility, and management. Successfully migrated over 46,000 COVID-19 records and established a DHIS-2 community of practice to support long term sustainability, training 78 individuals on system administration, configuration, and use.
Completed a diagnostic network optimization study in 18 out of 22 provinces, including 524 clinical sites and 121 laboratories. The study resulted in the mapping and geospatial modelling of optimization scenarios and plans for improved sample transport systems, enhanced patient access, reduced diagnostic turnaround times, and increased testing coverage for COVID-19, HIV, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases.
