Period of performance: April 2020 – April 2024

Achievements

Provided logistical and coordination support to the Ministry of Health (MOH) to roll out COVID-19 vaccination activities, including fixed and mobile vaccination sites. As a result, 533,361 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered.

Set up infection prevention stations in 13 facilities, one COVID-19 treatment center, and two precautionary observation centers. At these facilities, EpiC built capacity for infection prevention and control among facility staff, ensuring that health care workers could protect themselves.

Built the capacity of the health workforce to care for COVID-19 patients and maintain essential HIV services during the height of the pandemic. Trained 832 health care providers on COVID-19 clinical care topics, including caring for patients with severe acute respiratory infections, oxygen therapy and pain management, principles of infection prevention and control, mental health and psychosocial support for COVID-19 patients, risk communication, and emergency preparedness. Built the capacity of 80 health workers to provide antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence counselling for people living with HIV and provided transport to dispense ART in homes in 2020.

Strengthened the health information reporting system by procuring information technology (IT) equipment and disseminating Health Management Information System (HMIS) data collection tools and standard operating procedures for routine health data assurance at the national level. As a result, the MOH/HMIS department entered 363,424 backlogged vaccination records into the national data platform.

Collaborated with Margibi County to develop an immunization microplan to integrate COVID-19 vaccination into routine health and child immunization services, enabling the county to forecast its vaccine needs for the year; better manage supply chains and track vaccine supply, distribution, and coverage; and plan outreach activities for communities living beyond five kilometers from a health center. Other counties used the microplan as a template to adapt to their context.
