Caroline Francis, Project Director, LINKAGES Indonesia

In June and July, LINKAGES Indonesia collaborated with the Indonesia Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ISICM) to launch a webinar series, entitled COVID-19 management for doctors. The first webinar was hosted on June 26th and focused on non-invasive ventilation and intubation for COVID-19 patients. More than 850 participants attended the live session; to date, the webinar recording has received more than 735 views on YouTube.

One participant remarked, “Indonesia is suffering from a COVID-19 crisis and we (health care professionals) need training to help our patients effectively manage their COVID-19 symptoms. Thank you to LINKAGES and the ISICM for offering this important webinar [series].”

The second webinar was hosted on July 3rd. Presenters shared guidance on patient nutrition during COVID-19 treatment and discussed patient transportation and referrals from home to facility care.  More than 1,100 health care providers from 30 provinces participated in the live session, with an additional 300 views of the webinar recording on YouTube.

The third webinar, COVID-19 triage: field challenges and realities, was hosted on July 31st and featured a collaboration between the Indonesian Doctor’s Association (IDI) and the Indonesian Association of Emergency Doctors (Perdamsi). More than 1,000 participants joined the live session and, to date, more than 850 have viewed the recording. Listen to the webinar recording.

In the next quarter, LINKAGES Indonesia will work closely with USAID and the Indonesia Ministry of Health to carry out an assessment, Capacity for quality of COVID-19 care, at select facilities in Java and Bali. The team is also engaged in articulating priority oxygen ecosystem technical assistance priorities as the country experiences its most prominent COVID-19 surge since the virus was first identified in early 2020.
