HIV affects many women like Angelica, who are often stigmatized for both their HIV status and for being drug users. Drug use among women often affects their family and other relationships, leading to a lack of support and a risk of violence.
In 2021, more than 120 women who inject drugs in Eastern Kazakhstan underwent free rapid HIV testing at community organizations supported by the USAID- and PEPFAR-supported EpiC project, representing 27% of all women who tested for HIV through the project.
