While great progress has been made towards HIV epidemic control, globally, more than a third of people newly diagnosed with HIV still present to care with advanced HIV disease (AHD), about 10 percent die within the first three months in care, and the burden of AHD is higher in low- and middle-income countries. Focus, efforts, and person-centered strategies are needed to identify and treat people with AHD to reduce morbidity and mortality.
